Summoning Loving, Creative Energy to Rise Up in Me

Most often I have to invoke the spirits of Will and Power, Vim and Vigor to help me as I pull myself up by the boot straps implanted in me in my Mid-Western Protestant upbringing. Only sometimes can I find this revitalizing spirit in me through meditation, incantation, chanting and drumming, meant to awaken the Life Spirit still trembling inside me. And too often I want to find peace and ease within sleep.

But, “No!” I must move, greet the day, wash my face in cool water, address my self in the mirror, turn my sad look into a smile and become my own inspiration to rejuvenating thought. Now I am in life and life will live me as I live life. I am in the river’s flow. I am in the spirit of becoming. I am open to the loving creative energy that surrounds me, enters me, moves me as we embrace and sing: “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.”

May I always be grateful for my probing mind, seeking images that plant me solidly in this mysterious existence. In my recent song, Our Prayer: We Will Manifest Grace, I sing out: “Each breathe we make––Each step we take––Leads us grateful for this day––This beckoning newborn day––This wakening precious day…”
